For Dr. Goodwine, education is more than a career—it’s a calling. He has served as a mentor, advisor, and advocate for thousands of students, many of whom were the first in their families to attend college. His leadership philosophy is simple: meet students where they are, equip them with the tools they need, and help them see the possibilities they’ve never imagined.
From directing marching bands on national stages to designing academic programs that prepare students for the jobs of the future, Dr. Goodwine’s mission has never changed—to open doors of opportunity for every student, no matter their background.
"Education is the bridge between where a student is today and where they can be tomorrow. My role is to help them cross it." – Dr. Virgil B. Goodwine II

Let’s Build Together
For more than two decades, I’ve worked in classrooms, on stages, and in boardrooms to give students the opportunities, skills, and confidence they need to succeed. As a lifelong educator, mentor, and community builder—and a proud DPS parent with a son entering Ponitz High School as a freshman—I know what’s possible when we invest in our students, support our educators, and partner with families.
Now, I’m ready to bring that experience and commitment to the Dayton Board of Education. I’m running to ensure that every student has access to strong academics, innovative programs, and safe, supportive schools, regardless of their background.
I believe every student should graduate with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to thrive in college, career, and life. That means making smart investments in our classrooms, expanding enrichment programs, and ensuring every educator has the tools to succeed.
On Election Day, I’m asking for your vote to join the Dayton Public Schools Board and help build a future where every student can thrive, every educator is supported, and every family knows that public education is the best choice for their child.
Elect Dr. Virgil B. Goodwine II for the Dayton Public Schools Board.
